Honorary EarthCapader Sea Turtle by Hearty
A few years ago I went snorkeling on the Big Island of Hawaii. Have you ever been snorkeling before? Well then, you might know that snorkeling is when you wear a snorkel, which is like a straw, to breathe, and you wear a mask to see under the water, and you swim along the surface looking at all the beautiful colors of fish and coral down below.
The water was incredibly clean and clear and as I swam along kicking with my flippers and breathing through my snorkel, I could see everything through my mask. There were small and big fish and coral and beautiful colors. All of a sudden I felt something near me. I looked around, and there was a giant sea turtle right next to me!
I looked at the turtle, and the turtle looked at me. And I looked back at the turtle, and the turtle looked back at me. Then it swam off a little ways, and looked back at me. It waved its flipper, as if it wanted me to follow it, and swam on. Well, I decided to follow it, and we swam along together, farther and farther out, until I was deeper out than I had ever been before. All of a sudden the turtle dove down, down down all the way to the bottom, and looked back up at me.
Well, I had never dived down that far before, but I took a deep breath and I dived down down down I almost made it to the bottom but I needed air and I swam up up up to the surface, spat the water out of my snorkel, and took a few deep breaths. When I was down there, I thought I had seen something shiny, like a sea treasure. I had to go back down there and see what it was. So I took a deep breath, and let it out, and took another deep breath, and let it out, and I took one more deep breath and swam down down down I made it to the bottom, there was something shiny down there! And I reached out to grab it and it was…A Pepsi can!
I swam up up up to the surface and spat out my water, tucked that Pepsi can into my wetsuit so that I could recycle it later, looked down for the turtle, and it was gone. Now I figure that turtle took me all the way out there because she really wanted me to clean up that trash!
